LADY GREENSLEEVES Lyrics Midwinter moon is shinning bright The yuletide log is burning Good people gather round tonight The Sabbat Wheel is turning Joy Mirth the sun’s rebirth Now as of old we greet thee Gladdening the songs we sing Of praises to the lady. ‘Twas at the feast of bright Beltane When we were all a~Maying Sweet minstrel queen in her gown of green Spring roundelay was playing And though now robed in snow Her wintry garb deceives Bedecked with holly and mistletoe She is our lady Greensleeves. So drink ye wassail everyone Good pagans all make merry With wine as red as the newborn sun And red as the holly berry. Dance, sing, come join the ring As her yuletide spell she weaves Fair queen of the evergreen Sweet lovely lady Greensleeves!

The Christmas Waltz lyrics Frosted window panes Candles gleaming inside Painted candy canes on the tree Santa’s on his way and he’s filled his sleigh with things tings for you and for me It’s that time of year When the world falls in love Every song you hear seems to say Merry Christmas! May your new years dreams come true And this song of mine In three quarter time Wishes you and yours The same thing too.

SOLSTICE NIGHT Lyrics We gather on this sacred eve the Yuletide log is burning. Tribe and family join as one the Wheel of life is turning. We celebrate the sun's rebirth from darkness it is growing. Bringing warmth to frozen lands and set our hearts to glowing. Chorus Sing, Ye, of the mystery buried in the ground. On the longest night of all the year 'tis there our hope is found. As winter holds us in her arms the frozen wren is flying. Oaken traveler comes again, the Holly King is dying. (Chorus) As we depart our separate ways, through fields afar go roaming. Remembering on Solstice Night as day returns from gloaming. (Chorus)

WHAT DO BAD GIRLS GET Lyrics Well…. The holidays are comin’ And it’s got me so upset. See I’ve got a burnin’ question And nobody’s answered yet Good girls get toys for Christmas but, Santa, what do bad girls get? Do you cross me off your list For flirtin’ and for teasin’ Yes I’ve pouted and I cried But I had a real good reason! Oh, I got a burnin’ question Nobody’s answered yet---- (aw, come on!) Good girls get toys for Christmas but, Santa, what do bad girls get? Well you got your calculator I see you countin’ up those sins But Santa please consider How much worse I could have been! See, I’ve got a burnin’ question Tell me once you know I won’t forget. Good girls get toys for Christmas but, Santa what do bad girls get? What do bad girls get?

CHRISTMAS TIME IN THE CITY Lyrics Well, I walked to town in the pouring rain Paid my fare and I rode that train to the station under the avenue Hit the air at the stroke of noon At the cross streets where I staked my claim I played in tune with the winter rain Collecting dimes and dollar bills While the noisy traffic played the fills (Chorus) And it’s Christmas time in the City When the air is filled with cheer And the store fronts look this pretty Only once a year While the vendors huddled and the taxis honked I played for change beneath the neon clock It was dressed up looking like a Christmas tree Blinking down on that busy street When the crowd thinned out and the rain had quit And my fingers felt cold and stiff I took their money and I closed my case And headed back towards home again. (Chorus) (Interlude) As I walked back to the subway stairs I had 28 dollars and change for fare there was an old bag lady with an outstretched hand and a small Salvation Army band Playing “Angels We Have Heard on High” “The First Noel” “O Holy Night” I folded up one dollar bill And tucked it down into the till. (Chorus) (Chorus) (Interlude) And it’s Christmas time in the City.

BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE Lyrics I really cant stay - but baby, it’s cold outside I’ve got to go way - but baby it’s cold outside This evening has been - been hopin that you’d drop in So very nice - I’ll hold your hands they’re just like ice My mother will start to worry - Beautiful, what’s the hurry? My father will be pacing’ the floor - Listen to the fireplace roar So really I’d better scurry - Beautiful don’t you worry Well, Maybe just a ½ a drink more - put some records on while I pour. The neighbors might think -but baby it’s bad out there Say~ what’s in this drink? - No cabs to be had out there I wish I knew how - Your eyes are like starlight now To break this spell - I’ll take your hat, your hair looks swell. I ought to say no, no, no sir - mind if I move in closer? At least I’m gonna say that I tried - What’s the sense in hurting my pride. I really can’t stay - Oh baby don’t hold out! Aw, but it’s Cold…. Outside

I'VE GOT MY LOVE TO KEEP ME WARM Lyrics The snow is snowing, the wind is blowing but i will weather the storm what do I care how much it may storm I've got my love to keep me warm I cant remember a worse December just watch those Icicles form what do I care if icicles form I've got my love to keep me warm Off with my overcoat, off with my gloves I need no overcoat I'm burning with love my heart's on fire, the flames roll higher so I will weather the storm what do i care how much it may storm I've got my love to keep me warm.

TO DRIVE THE COLD WINTER AWAY Lyrics When Christmas’s tide comes in like a bride, With holly and Ivy clad. Her candles aglow, her mantle of snow, Shall make our weary hearts glad. Your door open wide to call her inside To brighten the gloomy day.! Our Wassail is blessed, our carols are best To drive the cold winter away. This time of the year is spent in good cheer And friends together do meet To sit by the fire, with magic conspire To make their holidays sweet. The lady and lord with circle and ward Will bid the good spirits stay! And at our behest they’ll banish the rest To drive the cold winter away. Inst…….. So these are the days we joyfully praise Despite the darkening year. We trust the light that shines in the night Dispels all sorrow and fear. The stars in the sky that sparkle on high Will render the long night gay! And here’s the good dame, plum pudding aflame To drive the cold winter away.

Rozhanitsa 04:03
ROZHANITSA Lyrics Rozhanitsa of the snows, Rozhanitsa of the barren trees, Rozhanitsa of the hungry birds, Come near our fire! When the killing blizzard blows, When the berries on the bushes freeze. Rozhanitsa, hear our tender words, Come near our fire! Stay by us 'til Spring breaks through. (Short piano solo) Little Mother of the deer, Little Mother of the winter Sun, Little Mother of the starry night, Come near our fire! When the fields are bleak and sere, When the icy streams forget to run. Rozhanitsa hold aloft your light, Come near our fire! Stay by us 'til spring breaks through. (Extended piano solo & outro jam)

NEW YEAR'S EVE Lyrics Maybe it’s much too early in the game, oh but I thought I’d ask you just the same. What are you doin’ New Year’s Eve? New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Eve. I wonder who’s arms will hold you good & tight When it’s exactly 12 o’clock that night Welcoming in the New Year, New Year’s Eve. Oh but in case I stand one little chance, Here comes a jackpot question in advance. What are you doin’ New Year’s, New Year’s Eve? New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Eve. Oh but in case I stand one little chance, Here comes a jackpot question in advance. What are you doin’ New Year’s, New Year’s Eve? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, in days of auld lang syne! For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne. We'll take a cup of kindness here, For auld lang syne. New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Eve. Whatcha doin’ baby? whatcha doin’ darling? on New Year’s Eve? Come with me baby, come with me baby, yeah What you got to lose now, baby? On New Year’s Eve, on New Year’s Eve.

IN THE BLEAK MIDWINTER Lyrics In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan, Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone. Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow, In the bleak midwinter, long ago. Darkness cannot hold you, nor your sorrows keep, All the earth awakens from this winter’s sleep. In the bleak midwinter a stable place shall be, Filled with home and harvest, blessed family. Lovers, friends and dreamers, we are gathered here, Candles on this darkest night of the year. Still our Mother only, in her earthly bliss, Holds her dear beloved, softly with a kiss. What then shall I give her, poor as I am? If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb; and if I were a wise one, I would do my part, yet what I can I’ll give her, I will give my heart.

about

All songs used by permission.

Midwinter Moon began as an idea about creating and sharing beautiful holiday music for folks of all persuasions, without restricting it to a specific religious tradition. There is definitely more than one "reason for the season."

Julianne Marx and Craig Olson started making music together over 10 years ago, beginning by performing at private Yule / Lucia Party shows and continuing with full-on festival band Cedar Moon, which toured extensively in the Pacific Northwest doing numerous festivals including the Seattle Hemp Fest, Northwest Herbal Fair, Vashon Island Faire and Seattle Peace Concerts.

Joining them on this "festivus-for-the-rest-of-us" recording is Tom Gire, a fabulous piano player and sound designer & producer from LA. Tom is best known for his work with Brand X Music on such seminal films as Shrek, The Karate Kid, Harry Potter and the Half blood Prince, among many others.

Joining Juels, Craig & Tom on most of the tunes is drummer Walker Evans, who also plays with country rocker Marion Weston and has been a session player on numerous albums. This guy can play! Catherine Hauke of the popular Celtic rock band "Coyote Run" plays truly amazing drums on "A Winter's Night." coyoterun.com

Rounding out the album is percussionist Joe Marx, who lays down some tribal beats on two of the albums 13 tracks. Last, not least, on the list of stellar performers on this project is vocalist Andrea Ramirez, who adds her vocal magic to two songs.
